The DGT clarifies in which cases double parking is allowed and you cannot be fined

Date:

Double parking is a recurring solution if we are late somewhere, are in a hurry with an errand or are looking for a parking space in a busy area.

However, it is not a legal practice and is one of the most common reasons for fines, especially in major cities.

Leaving the car in a double row will cost us a fine of 200 euros, although without losing points on the driving license, although according to the DGT there is an exception where we can use this emergency parking facility without exposing ourselves to a fine.

The regulations stipulate that the vehicle must be parked in a way that “does not impede traffic flow or pose a risk to other road users”, although not every case where this requirement is met will we lose the fine.

To do this, we will have to make sure that what we are actually performing is a stop and not a parking lot.

The difference between the two is simple: the stop takes less than two minutes and is done with the driver in the vehicle.

Parking means extending that duration and, moreover, that the driver does not remain in the car, as in the case of parking in a double row to make a quick purchase.

In the latter case we will be fined. But if we double stop, stay in the car for less than two minutes, and don’t block the road or endanger anyone’s safety, we can get rid of the fine.
