Dubious honor – Ugandan general would be worth ‘100 cows’ to Giorgia Meloni

Date:

Italy’s likely next prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, is facing a dubious “compliment” from Uganda. Ugandan four-star general Muhoozi Kainerugaba felt compelled to ‘appreciate’ the politician. In a Twitter post, he asked: “How many cows could the next Italian prime minister be worth?” He himself gave the answer: “At least 100 cows of the Ankole breed.”

“I would give her 100 Nkore cows right away,” Kainerugaba tweeted. “Because they are fearless and honest!” Others would give Meloni 50 or even 200 cattle.

“You don’t expect such nonsense from a general”
Criticism was not long in coming, of course, but Kainerugaba reacted in a relaxed manner. “This is sexism,” wrote one of his followers. Others wrote: “Especially as a general you have to be careful with what you write” or “You really don’t expect such nonsense from a general.”

“In our culture you give a cow to the girl you like”
“For my Italian friends, these are Nkore cattle,” Kainerugaba added. “The most beautiful cows in the world. I know that Europeans give flowers to women they love. I never understood that. In our culture, you give a cow to the girl you like.”

He even went a step further: “I think I should start with Rome. But how do I get 100 cows through customs?”

Whether Giorgia Meloni is happy with the “offer”, at least can laugh about it or is annoyed, has not been announced to date. The 45-year-old wants her new cabinet up and running by October 20 and probably has other things to do.
