On October 9, it’s that time again: the Graz Marathon causes many roads in the Styrian capital to be closed. On Sundays, the entire course is closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Many bridges are also closed on Sundays: Kepler Bridge, Archduke Johann Bridge, Tegetthoff Bridge, Radetzky Bridge and Augarten Bridge. Entering the prohibited areas is only possible until 07:00, you can leave in the direction of travel until 09:00 through designated exits.

Some arterial roads remain open
The station belt, Eggenberger belt and hospital belt will remain freely passable as a north-south axis. The east-west connections are formed by the Calvary Belt and Graben Belt Tunnel in the north and the Karlau Belt and Schönau Belt in the south.

In any case, on the day of the marathon, drivers should avoid Grabenstrasse, the Graben and Calvary Belts, Puntigamer Strasse between Triester Strasse and Liebenauer Hauptstrasse, as well as Lendplatz, Glacis and Dietrichsteinplatz.

Public transport also limited
The ÖAMTC advises all participants and spectators of the Graz Marathon to park their cars in park-and-ride facilities and to travel to the city center by public transport. However, there are also restrictions and changed timetables for public transport.

Several roads in the immediate vicinity of the opera will be closed from Saturday morning: for example the Burgring and Opernring, Wilhelm-Fischer-Allee and Franz-Graf-Alle, where the roads have been closed since 10 a.m. on Thursday.
