Seven people were injured when a Vienna public transport bus crashed in Penzing in May. When getting out, the driver had forgotten to apply the parking brake. He has now run off with a diversion.
As a spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service confirms, the driver may not be guilty of anything for two years and must pay a symbolic compensation to the two seriously injured.
Parking brake not applied
The driver got off at the Ulmenstraße stop on May 3 to check for a faulty door in the back of the bus. The vehicle moved because the parking brake was not applied and rolled into a tree and then a transformer substation.
Seven people injured
A total of seven people were injured in the accident. A 55-year-old suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter. Another woman suffered spinal injuries. Five children and young people escaped with bruises, scrapes and bruises.
