The B179 Fernpassstraße in Tyrol had to be closed to all traffic on Tuesday morning due to an accident. An Italian (33) drove his small car into an oncoming truck in winter conditions. The driver suffered such serious injuries that he had to be taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter.
The accident happened around 8.30 am on the Fernpasshöhe. At that time, winter conditions prevailed there. As the police described by “Krone” when asked, the slippery road was fatal for the 33-year-old Italian. He entered the oncoming lane and collided with the truck.
The driver of the small car suffered unknown injuries. In any case, these were so heavy that after first aid at the scene of the accident, he had to be flown by trauma helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck.
The lockdown was lifted around 10 a.m
During the operation and the clean-up work, the B179 was closed in both directions in this area. The blockade was lifted shortly before 10 a.m., the state traffic service reports to the “Krone”. The result was long traffic jams and congestion.
