In an accident between Mittertal in Mürztal and Veitsch (Styria), a pregnant deer was hit on Friday evening and succumbed to its injuries shortly afterwards. Her two fawns were rescued.
The deer wanted to cross the L 102 when it was hit by a car and seriously injured. However, the driver of the car did not stop and left the animal bleeding on the side of the road. The occupants of a following car noticed the animal, stopped and alerted the police and hunters.
Give fawns proper care
While the mother was gasping for breath, the two fawns were able to be removed from the abdomen by an “emergency caesarean section”. Thank God they were already developed enough to survive.
The siblings were then taken to the “Kaltenegger Wild Animal Reserve” in Traiskirchen, about an hour away, where they have been cared for and cared for ever since. “Thanks for watching and helping,” the station’s operators thanked for the rescue operation in an emotional Facebook post.
