After a murder conviction, that’s how long life really is in Austria

Date:

In Upper Austria, two people were quickly sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. The brother-in-law murderer from Grünburg (Upper Austria) is now appealing against the harshest possible sentence in Austria. But what can the Lower Austrian win in the best case?

Life imprisonment! “Icy cold execution” – Judge Dagmar Gursch conducted the trial against Roland K. (38) in a balanced manner and found clear words at the end. Especially since after Grünburg’s murder all four children had to see their ragtag father Hermann K. (47), who had been shot, his previous integrity and his confession at the sentencing evaporated. Immediately after the verdict, defendant and lawyer Hans Jürgen Riedl said: “To appeal!” Against the sentence, not against the conviction for murder. Roland K. will remain in custody in Garsten until an appeal is filed with the Higher Regional Court of Linz.
