Fire alarm Wednesday evening in the Tyrolean lowlands: A fire broke out in a house in Hochfilzen (Kitzbühel district), probably due to a candle. Nine residents – all family members between the ages of 10 and 81 – had to be taken to hospital as a precaution.
According to police, the fire broke out around 4 a.m. A resident discovered the flames and then tried to extinguish the fire with blankets together with another family member. Apparently in vain.
The fire brigade was able to prevent worse
Ultimately, only the alerted fire brigade was able to get the situation under control and announce that the fire had been extinguished. “As a precaution, all nine people in the house between the ages of 10 and 81 were taken by rescuers to St. Johann Hospital for further examination,” the director said.
According to previous investigations, the fire broke out near a windowsill where a candle was placed. Further investigations are ongoing. Apparently there was only minor property damage. The Hochfilzen fire brigade was on site with a total of 14 emergency services.
