Lignano Sabbiadoro has the partygoers back – and with them the excess of alcohol. After two years of forced break because of Corona, this year too, masses of Austrians and Germans made the pilgrimage to the seaside resort on the upper Adriatic. The Whitsun weekend in Lignano is known for its wild parties – just like this year: three young people had to be hospitalized with alcohol poisoning.
They collapsed due to severe intoxication and therefore had to be taken to Latisana Hospital – we are talking about three young Austrians who probably took the party weekend in Lignano Sabbiadoro too seriously. But that’s not all: the police – including officers from Carinthia – have their hands full this weekend…
A dozen sentences for drunkenness and felony had to be imposed. There is even mention of a young Austrian – he opposed the executive. As reported, there were special festive rules this year: watermelons were banned, and there were also no drinks in glass bottles or cans. Loud music should not be played after midnight.
Mayor of Lignano relieved
Since drinks are only served in paper cups, the city is cleaned every morning. The number of trash cans on the street was increased beforehand, and Lignano also drained the municipal fountain – to prevent revelers from bathing in it. Mayor Luca Fanotto is relieved: “There was no chaos. Thanks to our preventive measures, nothing has been damaged in the city.”
Hotels fully booked
Lignano also benefits from the festive weekend: the hoteliers confirm that they are fully booked. In some cases, additional personnel had to be deployed and more security forces were called in to keep the situation under control.
Some hotels issued their guests wristbands, which they had to show upon their return to be admitted to the facility. “With this, the hotels wanted to avoid the risk of unwanted guests entering,” explains Enrico Guerin, hotelier and president of the trade association ConfcommercioLignano.
