Heavy rain hit the southern Italian region of Campania on Tuesday evening, leaving two people missing after a landslide in the municipality of San Felice a Cancello, in the province of Caserta.
Their vehicle was swept away; a 42-year-old man and his 74-year-old mother have been missing ever since. Several homes had to be evacuated, authorities said Wednesday.
Many people ran into the streets in fear after basements and garages were flooded and cars and mopeds were swept away.
The streets of the hilltop town were flooded with mud and debris.
Trees fell on the street
Storms were also reported in the northern Italian region of Emilia Romagna on Tuesday. The worst damage was in the province of Modena, where trees fell on roads and hail caused significant damage.
