Dangerous scenes – “alcoholic ride” ended in the pond for BMW drivers

Date:

A 25-year-old drove off the road in Lower Austria under the influence of alcohol and ended up in a pond. He was able to save himself from the vehicle and the water and was taken to hospital with injuries. The rescue was difficult for the Florianis.

On the night of September 1, dangerous scenes took place. At around 12:30, the Hoheneich fire brigade was called to rescue a BMW from the Pürbacher Teich between Hoheneich and Pürbach in the Gmünd district.

I have more than just “wet feet”.
A 25-year-old driver from the Gmünd district drove off the road at a speed of about 0.8 per mille, broke the guardrail with his car and fell into the pond. The driver was able to free himself from the car, the front of which was almost completely under water. The man was treated on site by the rescue team and taken to the state hospital.

Difficult recovery
Because the front of the BMW was almost completely in the water, the rescue efforts were somewhat more extensive. The crane of the Gmünd fire brigade was called in to provide support. Using his waders, a firefighter from Hoheneich then attached the crane’s slings to the vehicle to lift the car out of the water.

“The vehicle’s battery was then disconnected and the car was parked in a safe place. After more than an hour and a half, the operation was terminated,” the Florianis report.
