14-year-old in custody – axe murder: There was a spot available at school on Monday

Date:

Great consternation in Kindberg, Upper Styria: a 14-year-old killed his brother (36) with an axe. The “Krone” knows new details: the dispute arose over household chores. And R. went to school inconspicuously the week before.

How could this happen? That is the question many people ask themselves in Kindberg, where a terrible bloodbath took place on Monday. Shortly after 1:30 p.m., a 36-year-old was found dead in his parents’ home by his sister. Shocked, she alerted the Red Cross. The situation in which he was found and the nature of his injuries made it immediately clear that the Styrian had died a violent death.

Urgent suspect: R. (first name abbreviated by the editors), the victim’s 14-year-old brother. The rescue workers alerted the police, who immediately started looking for the teenager. Almost an hour later, he was arrested not far from the crime scene by officers from the Kapfenberg police station and a patrol of assistance dogs (Tasso Nord). The suspected murder weapon was also found in his backpack: a 50-centimeter-long ornamental axe with two sharp blades at the front and back.

Disputes about household chores
The 14-year-old was questioned in the presence of a lawyer on Tuesday evening. He immediately confessed. He stated that there had been a long-standing argument with his brother about the division of household chores. This argument was said to have been the decisive factor in the fatal attack. According to the police, the 36-year-old was hit by several powerful blows in the upper body.

The Leoben prosecutor has ordered an autopsy. R. was transferred to Leoben prison on Tuesday – his confession is being checked.

The perpetrator family led an inconspicuous life
For tactical reasons, the police do not want to go into the crime and the circumstances. Not much is known about the family of the alleged perpetrator in Kindberg. The only thing we hear from the neighborhood is that she moved to Mürzhofen only a few years ago and that all family members led a rather inconspicuous life. No one knows for sure.

But there must also be no question of a violent history. The family was not yet known to the police. According to information from the “Steirerkrone”, the boy’s stepfather told the police that it had been very quiet on Sunday evening. How this escalation of violence could have happened is a complete mystery to him: “We had no idea.”

And what is known about the alleged perpetrator? Well, as the “Steirerkrone” learns from executive circles, R. first went to the Körner Kapfenberg secondary school and then to the Polytechnic School Kapfenberg. “He has been completely inconspicuous so far,” they say, “in the first week of lessons after the holidays he was still in class.” But on Monday, the day of the crime, the 14-year-old was absent from the polytechnic. Without giving any reason.
