Technical difficulties forced the crew of an AUA machine to return on its flight from Vienna to Washington on Tuesday. A stopover in Ireland followed, after which the jet returned to Vienna airport.
A malfunction had led to the machine’s unplanned reversal, Austrian Wings reported Wednesday morning. According to the AUA, there were problems with one of the flight data computers. “One of the flight data computer’s two displays is faulty,” it said. “Normally this is not a problem. However, air traffic control prescribes two displays for transatlantic flights.”
“Safety First Priority”
Because the safety of passengers and crew is always the top priority, the crew decided to make a stopover in Shannon, Ireland. The AUA emphasized, “During the entire flight, there was no danger to our passengers or crew.”
After landing in Vienna, the machine was carefully examined by technicians. The issue has apparently been resolved and the machine will fly to Montreal on Wednesday morning.
