These are hours of uncertainty in which a loved one suddenly seems to have been swallowed up by the earth. The police receive several reports of disappearances every day. In many cases it is minors who are reported missing.
In Upper Austria alone there were already 2,100 this year – that’s about six missing persons per day. “Around 1,800 minors involved. Of these cases from 2024, 28 are currently unsolved, of which 19 cases involve minors,” the Federal Criminal Police Office said in response to a “Krone” request.
High clearance rate
Compared to previous years, when there were always between 1,500 and 1,700 advertisements in our state, the number increased slightly this year. “But certainly within a non-extraordinary framework. “Especially because the clearance rates for 2024 are pleasantly high, around 98.7 percent, and those for 2023 are around 99.8 percent,” says the Federal Criminal Police Office.
No sign of senior
Nevertheless, 84 people, including 28 minors, are currently missing in Upper Austria – they will not be home for Christmas. The most recent case is that of a dementia patient (76) who disappeared from the Kepler clinic on Thursday evening. Since then, family, friends and emergency services have been searching for the man – so far without success.
