After discovering the painting “Portrait of a woman” by Klimt in a garbage bag in 2019, two gardeners in Piacenza (Italy) are now demanding a finder’s fee. This must be at least 50,000 euros. The painting by painter Gustav Klimt was stolen from a gallery in 1997 and was later found in a garbage bag in a dungeon.
In this area, which belongs to the art gallery Ricci Oddi, the gardeners were given the task of cleaning. The “Portrait of a Woman” was lost from the same gallery in 1997 when the alarm system failed due to renovations. When it was eventually found in the dungeon, the photo was in good condition and still stamped and sealed. How long it was in this place is unclear.
The photo can be seen until July 24th
His two discoverers now want a finder’s fee of at least 50,000 euros. According to the Italian daily “Libertá”, negotiations are already underway with the gallery. The work, which Klimt painted in the last years of his life between 1916 and 1917, can be seen in the exhibition “Klimt: Man, the Artist, His World” until 24 July. The gallery estimates the value at 60 to 100 million euros.
You see the face and torso of a young woman with brown hair in front of a green background. It is part of a series of women’s portraits by Klimt.
