Corona traffic light: – Yellow again in the west, but the situation in Vienna is unfavourable

Date:

The Corona situation is easing slightly. For the first time in weeks, the Corona traffic light is developing in a favorable direction. According to the decision of the responsible committee on Thursday afternoon, Tyrol and Vorarlberg are moving from high to medium risk, so they are now just as yellow in color as Carinthia and Styria.

Overall, there was even a national decrease in the infections detected, which is of course quite small at two percent. Only in Carinthia and Vienna was an increase recorded.

Highest risk in Vienna
Styria has the best value for the risk number, which determines the color scheme. With 42.5 you are a little further away from the 50, whose traffic light flashes orange and therefore poses a high risk. Vienna has the highest risk number with 74.8.

Federal capital suffers from the fact that the test frequency is no longer included in the calculation of the risk figure. With almost 22,000 tests per 100,000 inhabitants, the willingness to test is also declining in Vienna, but it is still well ahead of all other federal states. Tyrol and Vorarlberg, each with a good 3,000 tests per 100,000 inhabitants, will certainly benefit from fewer infections being detected in this way. This is also supported by the positivity rate of almost a quarter or a close fifth. By way of comparison: in Vienna it is less than six percent.

Vienna scores poorly everywhere
However, this week there is also another indicator that the situation in the federal capital is rather unfavourable. In the so-called wastewater monitoring, the figures for the federal capital rose sharply in July, while they stagnated or even fell in the other states. Still, all these figures should be viewed with caution. Because Salzburg is one of the countries with the lowest wastewater pollution, which remains in the risk area despite only an average number of tests.

Vienna is also the district with the highest infection cases in Austria in absolute terms, followed by Mattersburg in Burgenland and Korneuburg in Lower Austria. The location in Liezen in Styria and the Carinthian district of Spittal an der Drau is practically the safest.

Relatively stable hospital stay
The situation in hospitals is currently relatively stable, both with regard to regular care and intensive care. Admittedly, no decline is expected anywhere in the next two weeks, but an occasional rise, albeit not yet in critical territory. Unfavorably, in contrast to the general population, the trend of infections among the over-65s, who are especially at risk, continues to rise. The average age is now 43.9 years.

There were no recommendations from the commission this week. The staining was determined by circular decision.
