The new black and blue state government will be sworn in on Wednesday in the state parliament. Voting is not possible for the first time. A demonstration has been announced.
The new state government kicks off Wednesday with a premiere Black and Blue didn’t want. For the first time, members of the government are elected by secret ballot box. At the initiative of the KPÖ Plus, the opposition pushed for the show of hands to be abolished.
“The MPs of all parties should be able to follow their conscience, free from pressure and club pressure,” explained KPÖ-Plus boss Kay-Michael Dankl. His party, the SPÖ and the Greens have already announced that they will not vote for the government. Nevertheless, a majority of 22 of the 36 MPs for the seven members of the government is very likely. Excel lists are not used for counting, by the way.
Before the session there is an interfaith celebration
The two secretaries Martina Jöbstl (ÖVP) and Natalie Hangöbl (KPÖ Plus) count the votes, Landtag director Wolfgang Kirchtag prepares the minutes. There were already secret elections in the state parliament, but five years ago it was only for the second speaker of the state parliament.
The constituent session of the state parliament is opened by the senior chairman: this is the long-standing ÖVP politician Josef Schöchl from Eugendorf. After the appointment of provisional secretaries, he will swear in the 36 MPs – 14 of them for the first time.
Before the session, many MPs meet for an interfaith celebration in the Kajetanerkirche. Archabbot Korbinian Birnbacher, Pastor Tilmann Knopf of the Evangelical Church, Elie Rosen, President of the Jewish Community, and Fuad Arabas – for the first time – a representative of the Islamic Religious Community were involved in the design. Participation in this celebration is voluntary for MPs and members of the government.
There will also be protests against black and blue again, but only when the swearing-in is over. A demonstration starts at 4 p.m. on the Kajetanerplatz, which goes around the Chiemseehof twice and ends in front of the Festspielhaus. A minimum of 150 participants are expected. Although the demonstration only starts in the afternoon, there is a ban on gathering within a radius of 300 meters around the Chiemseehof for the duration of the meeting.
