The tires went flat – climate activists took on SUVs in Innsbruck

Date:

A global action in nine countries caused a stir on Tuesday evening: climate activists caused flat tires on SUVs, i.e. off-road vehicles. A few vehicles also ran out of air in the city of Innsbruck.

From New York to London to Innsbruck, climate activists wreaked havoc on SUV owners. In a global campaign, the “Band Extinguishers” caused vehicles to get flat tires. One or more tires were deflated. Nearly 900 vehicles worldwide have been affected, according to the company. It would also have been eleven o’clock in Innsbruck.

The activists also left a message for the owners in the Tyrolean capital. “Caution – your gas guzzler is deadly. We have deflated one or more of your tires. You will be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you, it’s your car,” the statement begins. Of course, the owners may not understand this action, as in some places those affected had to call the breakdown service to get their tires back in good condition. The danger of insufficient tire pressure should also not be underestimated.

SUVs as a catastrophe for the climate
The reasons given were that driving around urban areas has huge consequences: “SUVs are the second-largest contributor to the global increase in carbon dioxide emissions over the past decade — more than the entire aviation industry,” the vents said. The world is also facing a climate crisis. According to the UN, “millions of people are already dying as a result of climate change,” the letter from the activists said.
