After 50 years, NASA has started a new lunar program. However, when comparing the past and the present, Christian Mähr is not really enthusiastic.
Last Sunday, the last NASA lunar mission, dubbed “Artemis”, the unmanned spacecraft landed in the Pacific Ocean as planned. This begs the question: why, after decades of space travel, do Americans still end the return of their pods with a giant splash of water? There may be good reasons for the procedure – but has anyone considered how unprofessional it looks? The capsule rocks on the waves, plastic parts are inflated like “water wings” for small children, then the astronauts clumsily crawl into inflatable boats (!) – I was scared while watching TV, at the last moment someone slipped and drowned in the great Ocean.
