In Burgenland – major fire at a barbecue: several fire brigades in action

Date:

Shortly after noon on Sunday, an outbuilding in Ollersdorf in southern Burgenland was destroyed by flames. A miracle that didn’t happen again.

A devastating fire broke out in Ollersdorf in the Güssing district on Sunday afternoon. In Ackergasse, the roof structure of an outbuilding caught fire and was completely engulfed in flames within a short time. At the time, two people were barbecuing on the property.

Fire brigades warned
Due to the alarm regulations, the telescopic mast platform of the Oberwart city fire brigade was immediately dispatched. Because there was a gas bottle near the site of the fire, a photovoltaic system on the roof and a bone-dry corn field next to the building, Harald Holemar, the first incoming operations manager and commander of the local volunteer fire department, immediately recognized it high risk potential and immediately alerted the fire brigades of Stegersbach and Stinatz.

Significant material damage
Moreover, an extensive attack from outside immediately began and the troops were readied for action under heavy respiratory protection. The Pinkafeld volunteer fire brigade also provided support with a BOS drone and thermal imaging camera to provide comrades on site with information about hotspots and dangerous places from the air. Together, the fire was quickly brought under control. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

A total of five fire brigades with more than 80 men and 15 vehicles were deployed to the fire. Rescue services and police were also on site. Fortunately, no one was injured. However, the material damage is likely to be significant. The extinguishing work on the site is still in full swing.
